The threat to B.C. wild salmon is urgent!
Fish farms, stocked with Atlantic salmon that are invasive to our west coast, are infecting wild Pacific salmon and seriously threatening their health and existence by widely spreading lice, pathogens and other pollutants into the waters they travel.
In Atlantic Canada, there are similar concerns about the impact of fish farms on wild salmon, lobster, crab and other marine life.
The science is clear!
Mowi, a multi-national corporation based in Norway, is the largest fish farm company in the world, with operations in British Columbia and Atlantic Canada. And your Canada Pension Plan is one of its largest investors.
Our savings should not be used to kill off our wild salmon!
Many First Nations have long opposed these farms, and many organizations are campaigning against them. Governments are beginning to respond and Mowi is fighting back in the courts.
Nation-wide recognition of the salmon farm threat, and political pressure to remove it, are desperately needed.
A call by Canadians from coast to coast to coast for the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) to sell its shares in Mowi will demonstrate how appalled we are about the existential threat salmon farms pose to our wild salmon, lobsters and other marine life.
Your letter to the CPPIB President & CEO will be a strong voice in that call. Send your letter to have them divest from Mowi and sell all their shares!
A copy of your letter will go to the CPPIB Chairperson, the Prime Minister, cabinet ministers with CPP responsibilities, and your own MP.
